Rootstown Veterinary Hospital is a high-quality, privately owned, three-doctor small animal practice seeking a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team!
We are a well-established hospital dedicated to exceptional patient care and outstanding client service. Privately owned and operated, we pride ourselves on fostering a supportive, team-oriented environment where our staff can continue to learn and support our patients and clients.
What Makes Our Hospital Different?
- Supportive Environment: We don't believe in leaving you stranded. We operate with an incredible support team, ensuring you always have the backup needed for seamless patient care.
- Top-Tier Care Standards: We prioritize medical excellence and community trust over corporate volume. Our facility features advanced monitoring equipment, high surgical standards, and exceptional patient care protocols. We treat every patient with the care we’d want our own pets to receive.
- A Tight-Knit Team Culture: We support each other on the floor and connect off the floor through regular team events, a monthly book club, and interactive quarterly meetings where every voice is heard.
-
Protect Your Peace: Love vet med but hate the grueling emergency hours? We have zero emergency or after-hours call shifts. When your scheduled shift is done, you go home.
Your Role in the Hospital
As a Veterinary Assistant, you will work alongside our team to support daily patient care, maintain efficient floor flow, and assist our veterinarians, technicians, and other assistants:
- Safely handle and restrain patients during exams, treatments, and procedures.
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with diagnostic exams, care, and basic medication administration under supervision.
- Prepare, sanitize, and maintain examination, treatment, and surgical areas to strict standards.

- Monitor and care for hospitalized patients (feeding, walking, and basic patient comfort).
- Collect and process basic non-invasive laboratory samples.
- Educate clients on general wellness, routine home care, and basic post-care instructions while maintaining accurate patient records.
Who You Are
- Experienced & Motivated: At least 2 years of previous experience as a veterinary assistant is required. We're looking for a reliable individual with a strong work ethic!
- Skilled in Handling: Comfortable with safe, compassionate restraint and attentive monitoring (bonus points for Fear Free certification!)
- Detail-Oriented & Adaptable: Organized and calm under pressure, eager to learn, and able to maintain floor flow in a fast-paced setting.
-
Team-Oriented & Friendly: Clear communication skills, a collaborative positive energy, and a genuine passion for animal welfare and supporting your teammates.
Schedule & Perks
- Schedule: Full-time or part-time hours per week, with rotating Saturdays. No late nights or emergency hours.
- Pay: Competitive hourly wage ($15 – $17/hr, based on experience).
-
Benefits: For full-time team members, we offer a 401(k) with company match, a generous uniform allowance, paid time off, and employee discounts for your own pets after 90 days.

Rootstown Veterinary Hospital is a full-service, AAHA-accredited practice where high-quality medicine meets a genuine family feel. Since opening our doors in 2013, we have been dedicated to offering the best value in veterinary care through advanced surgical, diagnostic, and medical technology—all while maintaining the personal touch of a privately owned clinic.
Our Philosophy of Care
We understand that a pet is more than just an animal; they are a beloved member of the family. That’s why we’ve designed our facility to be a one-stop resource for the community, providing quality care, and fair service prices. We strive to create an environment where clients feel heard and "fur babies" feel safe.
Driven by Teamwork & Culture
We believe that exceptional patient care begins with a supported and happy team. At Rootstown, we prioritize a positive work-life balance, foster an inclusive environment, and make sure there is always room for laughter (and plenty of dog kisses) throughout the day. We aren't just colleagues; we are a dedicated group of professionals who truly enjoy working together.
Heart for the Community
Our commitment to animals extends beyond our clinic walls. We are incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with Rose’s Rescue. We have worked hand-in-hand with this amazing organization to provide medical care and support for cats and dogs on their journey to finding their fur-ever homes.
Compensation: $16.00 per hour
